With the Tour de France starting July 4th, we are only 12 days away from a fantastic race. I don’t know about you, but I am excited. Armstrong is back! He is joined by Levi Leipheimer, Chris Horner, and Alberto Contador (who won the tour in 2007) on Team Astana. Currently, Team Astana is moving consistently up the UCI team rankings and is at #4 right now.
Individually, Contador is ranked #2, Leipheimer is ranked #42, and Armstrong is ranked #76 overall.
The Giro d’Italia finished up at the end of May, and was the first time that Armstrong participated in it. It was a fun race, and team Astana didn’t do too bad. As a team they finished 3rd. Individually, Levi Leipheimer finished 6th overall, and Lance Armstrong finished 12th overall.
So… Astana has a pretty good team, and having watched the Giro, it looks like (and I am hoping) Armstrong is riding into his legs. If nothing else, it will be a fun race to watch.
I'll probably keep more current updates on our Facebook page for the coming Tour, with a weekly update on the blog. (plus the Facebook page gives the opportunity for discussion, so please become a fan!)
More to come and the best of luck to Armstrong, and team Astana!
